My day of extreme beekeeping wasn’t too bad. I loaded-up and tied-down 60+ deep supers with pulled comb from the storage container onto the truck. I drove to 2 bee yards and “top supered” colonies that were “kickin” butt”. (note: my husband prefers to bottom super, but I’m not strong enough to lift two to three 60-80 lb honey supers on each for so many colonies) 

I continue to develop my beekeeping “senses”. I can tell (for this time of the year) before I take the top off how the colony is doing: the activity at the entrance; the amount of bees outside the hive; the sound level; and, the level of difficulty getting the lid off.  

The day was hot, BUT there was a breeze that made it bearable. I also had my stingless/breathable bee suit on so working in the heat wasn’t bad at all. 

I’m happy to report that most of the colonies I checked today were doing great! No “dead outs” or swarms. We should have a great honey harvest. (fingers crossed that bears and wild fires don’t hit any of the yards) 

Early to bed tonight for tomorrow I need to check on the queen yard.

Blueberry Season In Coastal Alabama

If you live in LA (Lower Alabama) come on over to the Lyrene Farm and pick Blueberries. The Lyrene’s are good people and have some wonderful, fat, juicy berries ready to be picked, popped into the mouth or baked in a favorite recipe.

The Farm is located on 104 a few miles East of 181 on the North side of the road.
