5 Rivers Delta Resource Center

We saw our first Cicada Hawk here at 5 Rivers today (Sphecius speciosus, also called Cicada Killer). They may look threatening, but they are not at all aggressive. Males can’t sting at all, and females will sting only if handled or disturbed. They are common in Aug. and Sept. in South Alabama. So don’t panic if you see one flying around or a small swarm of them, they won’t hurt you!
